Mishell again took on competitors winning the
LA State Finals. She continued to the Semi-finals and on to the FINALS for the
1999 National Singing
Championship held in
Nashville Tennessee over Labor Day Weekend.

| What Mishell had in mind,
would be an event in itself. She wanted everyone to experience it for the first
time, at the same time. Mishell kept her performance choice confidential, telling no one,
not even The Singers Club. Several from the organization arrived to support
those members in competition. Everyone anticipated what was about to take place as
the stage director walked center stage and placed a RED Chair that was decorated with the
letters "R" and "D". We
immediately knew "the RED DIVA" was about to take over the audience. "I started contemplating a contingency comeback plan after the misadventures
of Houston. So my creative juices
started, sooooo I thought Blues!! Baam Wow! Nobody would be sooo bold especially another
"white" girl would attempt the "Blues" hmmmmm. Then I heard
"SSSSSSSSteamroller". Well this sounded like me. except, it was
written for a Man although I thought "it was made for a WOMAN" ....... a "DIVA"!!!!! |
|

| Out came this amazing woman
with colors that screamed "I have arrived". The audience was silenced
within seconds not wanting to miss one word, one move, one moment of this performance.
Mishell sat there seductively as the music began. "Steamroller".... but
that's a "MANS" song... that's when it started getting "good", the
instant she opened her mouth to sing.... that's when it became "great".
"In
about 1 hour, I had changed the words, it followed the same pattern and generic outline,
but the hook to this one was, I had NEVER heard anyone sing this tune... but loved the Raw
blues energy it gave me so I had to give it a try. And
if the Red Diva can't give you that down home blues fever? Well its like I told
ya'll in the beginning, when you say red, as in Red Diva, Well that ain't no color
either..." |

From the 1999 competitors, Prosing selected certain
entertainers and invited them to compete in the 2000 NSC. Mishell was one of those
chosen. When asked to comment she stated: "When next year comes, which I am already contemplating in my
spare time, it will be even more spectacular than this one. It will be another major
affair and transformation!" |
