about me
Hey, I’m Laura
My Dad, mum, aunties, uncles and step-dad are all bluegrass musicians and so me and my sister were born into the festival and music world. We naturally started doing little harmonies as kids… and never really stopped!
I’ve worked on cruise ships, and for hotels abroad since I was 18. I’ve been a singer and dancer for the in-house Production Teams and also fly back duo’s and resident bands. By now.. you could probably name any singing job.. and I’ve probably done it (at some point)
In our mid twenties, my sister and I set up ‘Mia and the Moon’ to record and tour with original music and putting our own twists on covers (sort of live lounge vibe). We were nominated as ‘Best Folk and County Act’ at the Unsigned Music Awards in London, featured on Xfactor, and our song ‘Moments’ was the title track of a film called ‘Alison’ which won a SAFTA (South African Film and Television Awards) for Sound Design. We also put together a local community choir and took them on tour in 2018 with a second album named ‘Ylla’.
Our songs ‘Midnight in London’ ‘Snow’ and others have been used for various sound tracks and you can find a lot of our covers and originals on youtube and spotify online.
I set up ‘The Singers Club’ to support amateur and aspiring singers back in 2013 and opened a second branch in Luxembourg more recently which has given me the opportunity to travel and collaborate with many musicians, and also give talks and workshops to start up artists and singing teachers.
Back in 2011 I guest sang at the New Orleans Jazz Festival with the wonderful violin and guitar duo ‘Tanya and Dorise’ and that will always go down as probably one of the coolest things I ever got to do!
My vocal idol growing up was Eva Cassidy. I loved how she could recreate a cover with so much soul. She had the most beautiful sounding voice that had the ability to cradle an audience and communicate every nuance and emotion. There are others… but to me; she was the master.
